Quick fix
Many issues can be resolved by restarting Hermetiq. If something isn't working as expected, try quitting and reopening the app first.
Common Issues
Transcription is slow
Transcription speed depends on your Mac's hardware and the length of the audio file.
**Expected performance:**
- M1/M2 Mac: ~1 minute of audio processes in 10-15 seconds
- M3/M4 Mac: ~1 minute of audio processes in 5-10 seconds
**If transcription is slower than expected:**
1. Close other resource-intensive applications
2. Ensure your Mac isn't in Low Power Mode
3. Check that you have at least 4 GB of free RAM
4. For very long recordings (60+ minutes), consider splitting into smaller files
Note generation takes too long
Note generation uses a local language model and typically takes 30-60 seconds.
**If it's taking longer:**
1. Ensure you have at least 8 GB of free RAM
2. Close browser tabs and other apps
3. Check Activity Monitor for high CPU usage from other processes
**Tip:** Shorter, more focused transcripts generate faster than long, detailed ones.
Audio file not recognized
Hermetiq supports most common audio formats: MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, and more.
**If your file isn't recognized:**
1. Check that the file isn't corrupted (try playing it in another app)
2. Ensure the file extension matches the actual format
3. Try converting to MP3 or M4A using a free tool like Audacity
**Voice Memos:** Export from the Voice Memos app, don't just drag the file.
Transcription quality is poor
Transcription accuracy depends on audio quality.
**For best results:**
- Use a quiet recording environment
- Position the microphone close to speakers
- Avoid background music or TV
- Use a dedicated microphone if possible
**If audio quality is low:**
- Hermetiq does its best, but very noisy recordings may have errors
- Review and edit the transcript before generating notes
AI models won't download
The initial model download requires a stable internet connection and about 10 GB of free disk space.
**If the download fails:**
1. Check your internet connection
2. Ensure you have at least 15 GB of free disk space
3. Disable VPN if you're using one
4. Try restarting Hermetiq
**If it keeps failing:** Contact support with your macOS version and any error messages.
Hermetiq won't open
If Hermetiq won't launch:
1. **Gatekeeper warning:** Right-click the app and select "Open" to bypass the warning
2. **Corrupted download:** Delete the app and re-download from our website
3. **Incompatible Mac:** Hermetiq requires Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)
**Check compatibility:**
- Click Apple menu → About This Mac
- Look for "Chip: Apple M1/M2/M3/M4"
- Intel Macs are not supported
How do I backup my data?
Hermetiq stores all data locally on your Mac.
**To backup:**
1. Open Hermetiq Settings
2. Click "Export Backup"
3. Save the backup file to a secure location
**To restore:**
1. Open Hermetiq Settings
2. Click "Import Backup"
3. Select your backup file
**Tip:** Back up regularly, especially before macOS updates.
How do I delete a client and their data?
To permanently delete a client and all associated sessions:
1. Select the client in the sidebar
2. Click the menu icon (three dots)
3. Select "Delete Client"
4. Confirm the deletion
**Warning:** This action cannot be undone. All sessions and notes for this client will be permanently deleted.
Performance Tips
Optimize Hermetiq performance
- Keep at least 8 GB of RAM free when using Hermetiq
- Close browser tabs and other apps during transcription
- Use your Mac plugged in (not on battery) for best performance
- Disable Low Power Mode in System Settings
- Keep macOS and Hermetiq updated to the latest versions
